New Covid19 Appointment Arrangements

How we are now operating

Please watch our video before you come to York Place Dental, Carlisle:

It’s a fact that the last three months have been a testing time for everybody, and we are aware that people want to get back to their normal lives as quickly and safely as possible.

This is as true at York Place Dental as it is anywhere else. Over the period of time that we were closed to normal appointments we’ve been working hard to redesign the way that we operate to ensure the safety of both our patients and our team.

When you next come to the dentist you will notice some significant changes to the practice, which are all designed to ensure the safety of both you and our team. Your journey through your appointment will therefore look and feel different, and on this page we’ve set out the changes that you will see.

If you have any of the symptoms of COVID-19 please let us know as soon as you can. Do not attend your appointment and we recommend that you follow government guidelines for self isolation.

Click on the link here if you’re not sure about those guidelines.

A week before your appointment

  • We will contact you, normally by telephone to check that you are well and to find out whether you’re having any problems prior to your appointment
  • If you are having problems, we will arrange a video or telephone call at a convenient time with one of our dentists.
  • We will send you a medical history via email or text to complete and return.
  • We will also make sure that you understand what treatment you are going to have at your appointment and its associated cost, wherever possible.
  • Payment should be made in advance - we are introducing new technology to assist with this.

The day before your appointment

You will receive a short message to check that you’re still well - This will normally be by text.

On the day of your appointment

Before you leave home please ensure that you:

  • Visit the lavatory
  • Clean your teeth
  • Leave in good time and plan to arrive ten minutes before your appointment

It’s important that you do not bring a large number of things into the practice with you. Ideally we would prefer it if you brought no extra bags or coats with you, weather depending of course.

When you arrive the door will be locked so please tell our team that you have arrived by phone (we will be introducing a self check-in facility very soon), and either stay in your car outside the practice, or if you come on foot please remain in the vestibule. When your dentist is ready one of our team will come and let you in.

To minimise risk please attend your appointment alone unless you require assistance or are coming with a child or somebody who is vulnerable.

We would prefer card payments in advance wherever possible so please try not to come with cash. If you cannot avoid coming with cash please bring it in a sealed plastic bag.

Entering the practice

When your dentist is ready for you one of our team will call you by text to leave your car and come to the door. When you enter, we will take your temperature with a contactless thermometer to ensure that you do not have a fever. If your temperature is above 37.5°C we will have to rearrange your appointment for the safety of all.

Once you have been invited into the practice you will be asked to disinfect your hands with hand gel and shown how to correctly put on a face mask.

You will then be escorted to the surgery at an appropriate distance, where you will be introduced to your dental team.

Your treatment

Our teams will be wearing extra personal protective equipment (PPE) in order to safely provide you  with the right care and service as they can’t adhere to social distancing recommendations. It may seem a little impersonal but unfortunately the national regulations require us to wear this extra PPE for as long as the pandemic continues.  Each surgery is carefully cleaned and disinfected after each patient, so appointment slots need to be longer, and you will be asked to wash your hands and to place any belongings in a box outside the surgery before sitting in the dental chair.

If you are attending for a more complex treatment which requires an AGP (aerosol generating procedure) you will be asked carefully to wash your mouth out with a special mouth rinse for one minute prior to treatment. Our team will explain this to you on the day

Once your treatment is complete you will be shown how to put your mask back back on, wash your hands and pick up any belongings from where they were deposited outside the surgery. You will be shown where to dispose of your mask at the exit door and then leave after using hand sanitiser before we say goodbye. If you have any questions or need to arrange any more appointments we will we can arrange this by telephone later as the aim is to minimise your time in the practice for your own safety.

We would like to assure you that these changes have been made to ensure your safety and that of our team. Every step has been carefully thought out and it is carried out for a reason, and it isn't as complicated as it seems. To watch our quick video click here.

As ever our aim is to provide you with the best quality dental care in pleasant comfortable surroundings. We don’t particularly like having to carry out these extra measures but are sure you will understand that whilst we still have Covid in our community it is essential.
