Botox-Carlisle

Believe it or not, my dream as a child was to become a plastic surgeon! Facial aesthetics seemed like a natural progression for my career after training to be a Dental Hygienist.

It makes me feel great to give clients that little boost in confidence that comes from a relatively small cosmetic procedure.

Botulinum toxin, widely recognised as "Botox", is a very thoroughly researched medication as it has many uses across the medical profession. It is used to treat a wide range of problems, and used in small, low doses for aesthetic reasons means it is a very safe and with good outcomes.

Botulinum toxin type A works by blocking the release of acetylcholine which is an enzyme required for muscle contraction. By reducing muscle contraction, the skin on the face is less likely to develop facial lines, therefore reducing the aging effect.Three to four months after treatment with Botox, movement does gradually return to the muscles as the enzymes find a new route into them, making treatment temporary. Clients find they need to be treated, on average, 3-4 times per year to maintain their desired look.

The procedure for administering Botox is with a very fine needle into specific muscles across the upper face. Generally, it's been described by clients as being a little 'stingy' as the solution is injected but not particularly painful. Some areas across the face however can be more sensitive than others, more so above the eyebrows, though the discomfort is minor.

The procedure itself doesn't take very long, about 20 minutes. The hour we allocate for appointments is more about discussing a client's expectations and their medical health to ensure the best, most effective results in the safest way.

Botox tends to start working about 3-4 days after administration and some clients notice the skin feeling a bit tight at this point. The optimum effects are seen up to 2 weeks after placement.

As with all cosmetic procedures, there are potential side effects. These are things that are discussed with patients prior to treatment and are rare. The most common side effect can be a droopy eye/local muscle weakness but this is still rare when administered by a trained professional.

As with all cosmetic procedures, outcomes vary dependent on the clients' wishes, which is why we allow lots of time to discuss what options are available and any possible side effects. We'll answer any questions and provide full and detailed information. We want everyone to be able to make an informed decision and to be happy with the results! So far, all of my clients have been very happy.

I currently offer anti wrinkle injectables and lip enhancement. My love for facial aesthetics is growing all the time and I am definitely looking to broaden the spectrum of treatments I can provide and to increase my knowledge, so watch this space.....!
