Facial Aesthetics at York Place Dental

Lines and wrinkles can develop as a result of environmental damage and as a natural side effect of ageing. Wrinkle reduction injectables are a popular treatment and help to soften frown lines, crow's feet and forehead wrinkles. Botox is the most researched and widely used cosmetic treatment available. It is very safe and effective.

Botox is a prescription only medicine and should only be administered by trained professionals.

We provide a safe and caring environment where your wellbeing is our priority.

You'll need to first meet with our Facial Aesthetics Practitioner, Louise and our Principle Dentist, Richard. You will have a face to face consultation. They'll want to fully understand your medical history and reasons for wanting the treatment. If the treatment is suitable for you and you decide you want to go ahead, Richard will prescribe the Botox and you will come back on another day when Louise will administer the treatment. We offer convenient evening and lunchtime appointments.

Protein is injected into the muscle which temporarily relaxes it and reduces the depth of fine lines, enabling a more youthful and rested look. Botox acts by blocking a chemical which causes muscle contractions, so the muscles are then temporarily relaxed restricting movement.

The treatment is quick and relatively painless. It usually takes around 20 minutes to be carried out safely. Your skin is cleaned and small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into the muscles of the face that are to be treated.

It can take up to 2 weeks post treatment to take effect.

Botulinum toxin injections can last an average of 3-6 months. Further appointments will be required to maintain the desired effect.

Digital Scanner 

Digital technology is revolutionising the dental industry. Here at York Place Dental we are always looking at ways we can work more efficiently and improve the patient experience.

In December last year we purchased a 3Shape Digital Intraoral Scanner to reduce the need to take impressions. Taking intra oral scans is a much simpler process than taking impressions, they are more accurate, much quicker and much more comfortable for the patient.

Taking digital impressions is much more comfortable for patients. It is so much faster to scan a mouth and there is no gooey mess as no impression material is needed.

Some other great benefits are that we are able to share the 3D digital scan with the patient and our scanner comes with TRIOS Smile Design, a fantastic tool that is 'changing lives' as well as a treatment simulator for showing patients the envisioned results of their orthodontic or cosmetic treatment.

​It is also a useful tool for teaching patients good oral health techniques by rotating the 3D digital image to view any surface of the teeth and to identify and discuss any areas of concern with the patient.

With Easter on the way, we're all looking forward to some chocolate treats. Sweet treats are fine in moderation and we want you to enjoy them!

We're all aware of the negative effects of sugar on our teeth and overall health and so here is some useful information and helpful tips to help you look after your teeth.

The recommended daily allowance of sugar is:

11 years to adult 30 grams
7-10 years 24 grams
4-6 years 19 grams

A Cadbury Crème Egg contains 26 grams of sugar
A small Easter egg 56 grams
Medium 92 grams
Large 148 grams
Extra Large 240 grams

Tips to avoid tooth decay:

• Brushing teeth thoroughly twice a day with fluoride-containing toothpaste as well as flossing daily.
• Reducing the amount of sugars and sticky foods, and rinsing the mouth with water if they are consumed.
• Reduce snacking; which helps reduce the production of acid in the mouth.
• Reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.
• Only eat sugary foods at mealtimes.
