The Top Thing that patients tell me they are afraid of when at the dentist is having an injection to make things go numb.
We all know that the truth is there's no choice. The good news however is that injections work really well and that dental care should be painless. Dentists use a variety of local anaesthetics, depending on the patients needs or the treatment involved.
However, not a lot of people know that by placing a special gel on your gum first, you can have an almost painless injection. Its called a topical or surface anaesthetic and it comes in a variety of flavours. Its cheap as chips for the dentist to buy so there's no reason not to use it.
Just ask your dentist next time you're there.
